Empowering Women in the Tech Industry
Our company is proud to be leading by example. Its top ranked CEO, Giuliana Corbo, is driving Nearsure from an impressive and award-winning background in female executive leadership. Naturally, one of Nearsure’s key focuses seeks to promote women, especially so within the field of technology. In that sense, 50% of our current company leadership are women. They’re furthermore leading in various roles. We’re certainly passionate and very proud to be shining great spotlight on all the amazing women executives who are paving the way for our diverse teams as much as we can.
On the other hand, however, Nearsure’s dedication to gender equality crosses across several tech community-oriented actions. Our partnerships are key for us in this sense. Together with MediaChicas, for instance, we offer course scholarships that provide education for women who want to access the tech field. We’ve awarded over 200 scholarships to Latin American women, empowering them with opportunities in this industry.
Media Chicas is an organization with the mission of bridging the gender digital divide by empowering women through training in technology and data science, development of soft skills and promotion of the entrepreneurial spirit. At Nearsure, we recognize the significant gender disparity in the technology industry: only 3 out of 10 workers in technology are women. By supporting Media Chicas, we aim to contribute to the creation of a more inclusive and diverse tech ecosystem, fostering equal opportunities and enabling women to thrive in the digital world.
We also sponsor and actively take part in women-led events, including Django Girls, Women Techmakers, Frontin Elas Programam, Jump Conference, and FemIT, and collaborate with organizations working towards gender equality in the tech industry.
Nearsure Seeks to Go Further in its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
Despite our strong tech gender equality efforts, which have now been ongoing for several years, Nearsure is furthermore making strides to create an even more inclusive work culture that strongly values, respects, and welcomes human diversity. In this spirit, we have a newly created internal appointment for our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) efforts at Nearsure. Yet, we have also hosted talks and seminars to educate our teams on these important subjects to foster an ever increasingly inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and respected. Our internal talk, “The Reasons Behind Inclusive Language,” is just one example of this year’s internal measures to foster a more inclusive workplace.
We also hosted an external webinar for our broader community titled “The Power of Diversity: How Diverse Teams Can Drive Innovation and Success.” This session, delivered by Julissa Mateo, “founder of the largest community of women in technology in the Dominican Republic,” was open to our broad LinkedIn community. It mainly highlighted the extraordinary benefits of having a diverse workforce and focused on how companies can embrace DEI policies.
Balancing Social Impact with Employee Benefits
Several months ago, we also brought on board a new benefits platform for all our talent. The Betterfly App has become a cornerstone of our benefits program as it supports our employees to also make a positive impact on society. This app encourages wellness while rewarding healthy habits. It gives our talent access to yoga and fitness classes as much as appointments with medical practitioners and psychologists. People can connect their mobile health apps to take part in different physical challenges with other colleagues through it.
What sets this innovative application apart is that, with each competition or class taken, employees accumulate coins that can be used to contribute and donate to various social causes, such as supplying food for community kitchens, supporting education, or contributing to environmental initiatives. With this approach, we seek not only to nurture our employees’ well-being but also, in line with our vision, to make a daily impact on society to promote a better world.
How Our Hybrid Approach Helps the Planet
Another vital axle of our work is Nearsure’s hybrid work approach, which aligns well with our environmental consciousness. As a recent study conducted by Cornell University and Microsoft highlights, embracing remote or hybrid work arrangements significantly reduces our carbon footprint, contributing to a more sustainable future. We take pride in knowing our remote structure mixed with smart use of office locations which our talent and clients can access at will create a balanced structure that reduces our corporate environmental impact.
